Childhood Writings: Frozen in Time

FROZEN IN TIME
By

KIM SKIBINSKI

Introduction

Kim was the normal, smart, girl. 5th grade wasn’t so easy, or so she thought. It was one day when it all happened.

Chapter One

“Kim!” Mrs. Ski yelled. “Get out of bed!” Kim hurried down the stairs. Something did not feel right. She felt fine, her pants were on right, and she didn’t forget to put her underwear on. Still something wasn’t right. She ate breakfast at hyper speed, brushed her teeth, said, “Bye!” to her mom and sick sister, and headed out the door to the bus stop.

When Kim got off the bus the awkward feeling got bigger. “Ladies, not conversation time,” said Mr. Fauth, Kim’s teacher, unsurprisingly. “Well, the D.O.L. looks good, but…ooh cr-.” Mr. Fauth was about to spill his coffee on his brand new pants. But he never did.
Chapter Two

Nobody was moving. Mr. Fauth looked as if he were stunned. Everyone looked as if they were frozen…frozen in time. As a matter of fact, the whole world was frozen. Kim was thinking on what just happened. What did happen? If nobody can move she might as well try to, she thought, though it didn’t make any sense to try.

She tried to move her arm. To her surprise she could move. “Hello,” she called. She could talk. She could move her arms and feet. “Might as well look for anyone else that is not…frozen,” she said. Then she got up from her chair, and was off.

Chapter Three

“Be right back!” she yelled to her classmates, although she knew they could not hear her. She went racing down the halls. She opened every classroom door. None. No one. Nobody. She finally went back to her room. Sat back down in her chair. Sat down and cried.

She cried and cried and cried. She was alone. All by herself. Nobody to help her, nobody to stop her from crying. While she was crying, a person came and stood right beside her (if you want to call him a person). He had silver hair like Dumbledore from the Harry Potter books Kim read, but not a beard like him. His name was Jeme. “Kim,” he said in a soft and tender voice. “You are the chosen one.”

Chapter Four

“You and five other kids in your class and or out, have to come and save our world,” Jeme said. “How the heck am I going to do that?” Kim asked, baffled. “Chose five people and I will unfreeze them.” “O.K., that’s easy. Mike Lazansky, Conlee, Josh Adams, Tyler Glaven, and uhh…Jackson Mitz, they all have different personalities and idiosyncrasies.” “What the…?” “Huh?” “Mr. Fauth!” “Your coffee!”

“Mike, Conlee, Ty, Josh, Jackson, this is Jeme. This may sound crazy to you but we have to save the world.” “How are we going to do that?” asked Ty stupidly. “You each have an idiosyncrasy. Once you find that idiosyncrasy it is like a power. You use it to defeat our biggest enemy Evilmon. He is taking over everything. Our whole world.”

Chapter Five

“That explains everything,” said Lazansky. “Kim’s awkward feeling, getting frozen…but who is we and where are we going?” “I am called a crazy people, and you people are going to Quebecec, the Crazy World is what you should call it. Is there anything else we need to discuss?” Jeme asked.

“No,” we all said. “Then all you take these. There sort of necklaces. When you find your idiosyncrasy it will appear on the string.” “One more question Jeme,” asked Conlee. “Is there a possibility that we could die on this mission?” “Yes there is a possibility that you can, but there is also a possibility that you can’t so just think about that. Are we all ready? O.K. then, here we go!”

Chapter Six

Suddenly, there was total blackness. Kim’s feet were lifting off the ground. She was spinning, and so were the other guys. She wasn’t scared nor was she up to the job of saving the world, both worlds, with a possibility of dying. Finally, there was land again. There were colors.

They all fell on to the ground. “I will be leaving you here. You must do this on your own. If you beat Evilmon I will come and take you back to your planet and start the time again.” “I see why you must leave,” Kim said. “But how do we get our idiosyncrasies?” “You must find them in yourselves.” Then with a swish of his cape, he was gone.

Chapter Seven

“We have been walking for hours Kim, can’t we take a break?” asked Josh. “Really Kim, lets take a break,” said Lazansky. “Hang on guys, I think we’re very close.” She was right. Just around the corner there was a hotel. “Wow!” said Conlee astonished. “If this is what comes with saving the world, I’d do it any day.”

“I don’t know you guys. This might be a trick of some sort,” Kim said cautiously. “Come on Kim, lets take a chance,” begged Josh hopefully. “Besides my legs hurt horribly!” “Well, okay, I guess, but promise to be very careful.” “We all promise,” said Josh impatiently. “Now lets hurry up and go!” With a lot of yells, the group of six ran to the so-called hotel.

Chapter Eight

When they got into the hotel, Kim felt strange again. “Well it’s big and it only has two floors, but they are huge!” exclaimed Josh with enthusiasm. “I think I’m going to take a bath!” “Yeah!” “Me too!” “Agreed!” “Sure!” “Cool!” “I’m in!” So by following Josh, everyone made their way up to the bathroom to take a bath.

Everyone went into their own rooms, in their own tubs, with their own shampoo. Kim’s room was evidently next to Jackson’s room, and close to the wall so she could hear everything he said. “How to overthrow the French government. Well I’d have to get out of this dumb place first. I don’t even know why Kim sent me here in the first place. The fool.” Kim heard it all.

Chapter Nine

After everyone’s bath, the group went down to the dining room to eat. “Kim you’re actually going to eat all that?” Jackson asked astonished. “ So you think I’m a fool also because I put a lot of food on my plate? Is that what you are trying to say? You are such a moron!” She stormed out of the room furiously.

“You know Jackson, I was on the other side of you in the bathing room and I also heard all that,” said Ty courageously. “I had…” “Jackson I know that you don’t like this that much, but you could have been a whole lot nicer to Kim. I mean we all don’t want to do this, but she had a special feeling in us all!” “But I…” “I know you didn’t mean to, but just now you acted like such a jerk!” “So you want to surrender to me now, or later?” a dark, cold, voice said.

Chapter Ten

“It’s Evilmon!” Kim said in an astonished voice. “I knew it. I knew it!” “Of all places of places. You wouldn’t even expect it,” Conlee said, flabbergast. Tyler drew a blank, as if talking to Jackson took his voice away. “I can’t believe it!” said Lazansky. “I can’t believe it!”

“Now that you have fallen into my trap, you are going to be split up on different pieces on this island. You won’t even know if you land with somebody or not! Ha ha ha ha ha!” Evilmon laughed. It was a cold, heartless laugh. Suddenly, everyone was in the air. The island was breaking apart. Fast. Very fast. With a smack, everyone got whacked onto separate parts of the island.

Chapter Eleven

“Kim wake up, you’ve been asleep for hours!” It was Mike Lazansky’s voice coming from her side. “Is anyone else here?” Kim asked. “No. Not anybody. I think from what I saw that the other four guys got on two different parts of the island.” Kim sat up. “So, do we know where they are?” “I don’t. I saw you get knocked out from Evilmon’s slap, so I don’t think you know anything of what happened.”

“So, where should we go?” Kim asked. “Well, first we’ll have to make a raft, but I think we should wait there a few days because I think someone will come. Jackson and Josh were the closest to us, and they’ll get here at whatever cost.” “Shouldn’t we go find our idiosyncrasies?” “Yeah, I guess we should.” And with that, they were off.

Chapter Twelve

“Hey Jackson, this stuff really works!” said Josh, flattered. “I know Josh,” said Jackson. “I picked it out myself. I got the wood controllers in. Bring the wood nails over here, and don’t forget the lid!” They were making a two-person submarine. It was Jackson’s idea. “So are we going to test it?” wondered Josh excitedly.

“Josh, we’re going to ride it to Lazansky’s and Kim’s part of Quebecec. No testing it, just doing it. Hey Josh! Come over here and see this!” A shining black eye was flying to Jackson, to his neck. It was the crest of evilness. “Jackson you got your idiosyncrasy!” Jackson held out his so-called string around his neck, and the crest clipped on. Then, all of a sudden Jackson disappeared!

Chapter Thirteen

“Conlee, we have to go find our idiosyncrasies!” said Tyler annoyed. “O.K., we have nothing else to do. You go left and I go right. We’ll meet back up here in a little while,” said Conlee. “I don’t think my crest is far from here. I’ll come back when I find it.” “Right. If I can’t find mine in a little while then I’ll come back” So they left.

While Ty was in search of his idiosyncrasy, he became encountered with seemed a mix of a horse and a leopard. It was one of Evilmon’s companions, Zebar. “I’m not afraid of you!” Ty said. “Leave me alone!” Without any warning, from the tree next to him came a small quarter moon. “Courage!” said Ty. “I got courage!” He held it out in front of him and moons came out circled Zebar and made him disappear. Zebar was defeated, so Ty made his way back to the place where he and Conlee started.

Chapter Fourteen

Josh couldn’t find Jackson anywhere. He decided to leave for Kim and Mike’s part of the island. He jumped in the submarine and pulled back on the controller, and was off. He went down into the ocean. He saw many awkward creatures, and sometimes he stopped so the creatures could examine him. Finally, when he thought he was close to Kim and Mike’s part of the island, he pulled his controller up and climbed up to the surface.

He opened the top of the submarine. One of the creatures came up also. It threw something up into Josh’s hand. It was the crest of reliability. It was a circle with two diagonal lines coming up to it. As soon as the crest went on his string, Kim and Lazansky came running to meet him.

Chapter Fifteen

“Josh! You’re here!” shouted Kim excitedly. “Where’s Jackson?” “When he got his idiosyncrasy he disappeared, and Kim, after you get your idiosyncrasy, you can call it a crest,” said Josh. “I’m glad we could rely on you to come and tell us this,” said Lazansky, looking at his crest. “Well, I didn’t have anything else important to do, and I had to tell you the news about Jackson.” “I’m glad you came,” said Kim.

“Josh, hand me the hammer!” yelled Kim. They were updating the submarine. They were making it bigger so everyone could fit in it. “Josh, nails please!” yelled Mike. They were almost finished. “There!” said Josh. “It looks perfect!” “Do you guys want to go and find Conlee and Ty now?” asked Kim. “Lets,” said Mike.

Chapter Sixteen

Wow! Ty thought. Conlee hasn’t come back yet, but I know he’ll come back. Two minutes later, Conlee came running back. “Sorry I’m late Ty, but I got a little carried away trying to find my idiosyncrasy.” “Did you find it?” asked Ty. “No. Maybe I wasn’t supposed to come here. No, because if I didn’t belong here I would be stuck between our world and this world.” They laughed at the thought.

All of a sudden, there was a shining, glimmering light. A circle with three lines coming out of it, the crest of humor. Although Conlee’s thought wasn’t exactly humorous, he did try to keep his own hopes up. “Conlee, you didn’t have to do all that work of trying to find you idiosyncrasy, it was right here!” There was a loud whirring noise and Conlee and Ty went outside to see what it was.

Chapter Seventeen

“Conlee! Ty! You guys they’re over here!” Kim yelled. “I thought we’d never find you guys!” “I am so glad all my friends are here to help me do this,” said Lazansky while running to them. “I mean, without Kim I would have no sense of direction. Without a compass, I mean.”

Another shining light, then out came the crest of friendship. It was a lightning bolt. “Great!” said Kim annoyed. “Now I’m the only one without a crest!” “Ha, ha!” said Josh. “So what!” said Lazansky. “It’s probably the most important crest.” “Unknown fact,” said Josh.

Chapter Eighteen

“So what are we going to do now?” asked Kim. “I mean, we could go and rescue Jackson now.” “But we don’t know where he is, and who wants to get Jackson anyway?” said Josh annoyed. “I know where he is,” said Kim. “He got transported to Evilmon’s tower. The crest of evilness, don’t you guys get it?” “Yes, good logic, but where is Evilmon?” wondered Lazansky. “He could be anywhere.”

Suddenly, two Zebar came. “Don’t hurt any of us, I’m armed!” said Ty. “We are here to take you to our master,” the Zebar said. “Should we go?” asked Conlee. “Well, it should be Kim’s choice,” said Lazansky. “She said ‘no’ to us when we were going into the hotel at first and she was right. So let her make the decision.” “We’ll never know unless we try,” she said.

Chapter Nineteen

They were off. The spinning and twirling sensation came to Kim again. Finally, their feet were all on the ground. They were in Evilmon’s tower, and right in front of them was Jackson. “I am here to take you to my master,” he said. Kim whacked Jackson three hard times on the face. “What the… you fool!” “Sorry Jackson, but I had to do that to get you out of the trance,” Kim said.

“My crest changed!” said Jackson with astonishment. The color changed from black to a dark blue. “Must be the crest of weirdness,” said Ty. “I see you made it here in one piece,” said the deep, dark, voice of Evilmon. “We can win you know,” said Kim. “No you can’t!” said Evilmon.

Chapter Twenty

“Didn’t Jeme tell you that you couldn’t win against me unless you all get your idiosyncrasies?” “No,” said Kim. “Well, you have five crests instead of six,” said Evilmon laughing. “Then that must mean that I’m not as important as I thought I was,” said Kim.

“You guys just don’t understand,” said Kim. “Since I was the chosen one, I thought that I was the most important one, but I guess I’m not.” Suddenly, there was light everywhere! “Hey, does anyone have sunglasses around here? I can’t see a thing!” yelled Conlee. Kim took off her string around her neck. The crest clipped on, it was the crest of importance.

Chapter Twenty-One

“Looks like you are important,” said Lazansky. “Okay you guys, lets get this done and over with,” Kim said. They all pulled out their crests and held them out in front of them. Nothing happened. “You guys, nothing happened because we weren’t believing in ourselves. If we do that, we’ll win.”

They all held out their crests again. Tyler was the one who started it. “Courage is the thing that overcomes your fear.” “Having friends is the point of life,” said Lazansky. “Being weird is for the birds,” said Jackson. “Being relied on is cool,” said Josh. “Humor helps!” said Conlee. “Being important is the greatest thing that ever could’ve happened to you,” said Kim

Chapter Twenty-Two

There was a loud roar. Evilmon was on pain, a lot of pain. He was destroyed. “We did it!” yelled Kim. “We really did it! And all of it was because of you guys.” “Kim, if it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t be here,” said Lazansky. “So, are you all ready to go back home?” asked Jeme, who just appeared. “I think we are,” said Kim.

“I will unfreeze time in a few seconds,” Jeme said. “Wait!” said Kim. “I have to do something.” Kim walked over to Mr. Fauth’s desk and put the coffee cup back on his desk, and then everyone sat down. “Crud!” Mr. Fauth yelled. He was jumping out of the way. During the process he kicked the table leg. The coffee fell of the desk and landed all over Mr. Fauth’s head. Conlee raised he hand. “Yes?” “Mr. Fauth, you must really like coffee.” Everyone laughed. Until another day, Kim thought. Until another day.
